Come Read and Write With Us!
Now that the election's over, we have a bunch of writer activities in store.
Wow, I don’t know about you but I’m *so* glad not to be as deeply-stressed about the election. So if you’re in the mood for post-election writerly nerdiness, you’ve come to the right place because we have a bunch of Fairest Writer activities in store.
But before that, here’s the recording for my “Memoir Techniques for Fiction, Fiction Techniques for Memoir” workshop two weeks ago. Two things to note are that I started recording late and did a little recap starting at 53:00 of the beginning of the workshop; you might want to listen to that first (also the memoir I was discussing is Jenny Boylan’s She’s Not There). Also we only got through the first part of the workshop so watch out for Part 2 in the near future.
All right, here’s our slate of Fairest Writer-related events coming up:
Tu, Nov 17, 8 ET / 5 PT
Write or Die: A Writers’ Book Group
This is a group of writers discussing books related to writing. Our next book is Jane Alison’s Meander, Spiral, Explode, which aside from having an amazing cover is one of the most intriguing books on narrative I’ve come across. Come join us even if you haven’t finished (or even read the book), and also join our Facebook group for announcements of future meetings. REGISTER HERE
Wed, Nov 18, 8 ET / 5 PT
November Fairest Writing Session
If you find yourself a little stuck or longing to write with other people, come join us over Zoom so we can all write together. I wouldn’t have gotten my fellowship applications done had I not been coming to writing sessions the past few months! REGISTER HERE
TBD
Memoir Reading and Workshop Group
One of our members, Barrak Alzaid, is starting a memoir reading and workshop group that’s still in its planning stages, but looks like will be meeting every couple of weeks alternating between reading memoirs and workshopping writing. I’m mainly working on fiction right now but will probably come by especially for the workshop part, and we’ll also try to coordinate events with some of the memoirs the group is reading. Fill out this Google Form if you’re interested!
Finally, just a note to say we didn’t schedule any workshops post-election because we weren’t sure how things were going to look, but we’re going to start planning those again for the near future so watch out for announcements!
See you soon,
Meredith
