Happy New Year! Sorry it’s been a while; I’ve been on the West Coast enjoying the good weather (ha ha) and giving myself an unexpected break since I tend to have less writing mojo in winter. Hope everyone’s been well.
After several years of mostly teaching remote, I’m thrilled that I’ll be teaching at two in-person writers’ conferences this summer, short fiction at the Tin House Summer Workshop in Portland, Oregon from July 8 to 16, and nonfiction at the Lambda Retreat from July 30 to August 5. Applications to both workshops are due January 31 (sorry for the late notice!) so please apply if you want to work with me or any of the amazing faculty at both places.

In other news, I’m honored to have received a Creative Capital Award for my debut novel-in-progress, The Shadow Worker, which will enable me to do research and travel that would have been a lot harder without the grant. Here’s the announcement with this year’s crop of fifty artists who are receiving $50,000 in direct funds as well as the equivalent amount in artist services to realize our projects over the next three to five years. Woohoo!
I’ll be posting about how to handle applications and submissions in my next newsletter, so watch out for that. :)
Talk soon,
Meredith
