Fiction Techniques for Memoir (and Vice-Versa) Workshop Next Week!
Hope you’re all managing okay in the election run-up. If you feel like forgetting current events for an hour and diving into craft, I’m doing a workshop next Tuesday 10/27 at 8 ET / 5 PT on how to incorporate time-worn fiction techniques into your personal writing, and conversely, how to think about expanding autobiographical fiction beyond straightforwardly fictionalizing events that happen in your life. I’m pulling examples from some of my heroes, including Kiese Laymon, Alexander Chee, and Jennifer Finney Boylan. REGISTER HERE
Also we have our monthly Fairest Writing Session this Saturday from 10/24 2-4 EST (11-1 PST) for folks who want to write with a group for a couple of hours, at a time when coffee work dates with writer friends are hard to come by. MORE INFO HERE
Then for those of you who wanted our usual link to our previous workshop with Thomas Page McBee on book to screenwriting, we alas got into the professional weeds and Thomas requested to not release the recording. But if you want to talk about what happened with folks, do join our Facebook group and you can talk it over with people there.
Finally, huge pub day congrats to Fairest Writer regular Henry James Garrett and his wonderful illustrated empathy handbook This Book Will Make You Kinder. I for one am buying copies as holiday gifts for each of my conservative family members! BUY THE BOOK AT BOOKSHOP
Talk soon,
Meredith
