No Words, Just Space
It has been habitual for me to examine a situation and find ways to describe and analyze it, to relate it to my storehouse of reading and experience so I can render some sort of valuable insight. But today the only insight I can muster is the knowledge that I have no compass, as someone who is not Black, for the layers upon layers of profound injustice, now and over centuries, that Black people in this country have experienced.
So all I can provide right now is space for us to talk. I canceled our scheduled workshop tomorrow and am hosting a session at 6:00 p.m. EST called “Writing and Social Justice,” to discuss how we can help as writers and as people. Please come and join if you’re so moved; if necessary, we’ll break up into smaller groups so everyone can talk. I for one would appreciate being among other writers grappling with our world right now.
