Hi everyone.
First off for those of you who missed my “Building a Sustainable Writing Career” workshop with Jenna Wortham, here’s the link to the recording, which expires on the 21st so get to it soon! Also if you’re in the hunt for writing resources keep scrolling down. But in the meantime:
Come and discuss writing across mediums with me and Emma Copley Eisenberg, who wrote The Third Rainbow Girl, an absolutely dazzling work of reported memoir, and has published short stories in a bunch of places plus has a collection and a novel forthcoming from Hogarth / Penguin Random House. I’m looking forward to talking to her about the specific challenges surrounding writing in different genres, as well as what lessons and strategies a writer can take from one genre to another.
Writing Resources
In response to a question about writing resources, Jenna is part of a mentoring collective for BIPOC writers called Periplus, which y’all should check out. I was going to compile more resources but realized that there are plenty of lists available online, like this fantastic article by Fairest Writer member Ian Kumamoto about the resources that got him started freelancing, as well as this resource guide for journalists from UCI prof Erika Hayasaki. There’s also an *entire new vertical* from Catapult devoted to writing resources, Don’t Write Alone.
Also…
I’ll be part of a virtual reading and fundraiser for the AAPI community this Saturday at 8 ET organized by Loyalty Bookstores. More info here and hope to see you there!
Talk soon,
Meredith
