Apologies for this late newsletter; I was sick all week last week and only catching up now. For those of you who missed my amazing discussion with Emma Copley Eisenberg about writing across genres, here’s the link to the recording, which expires in two weeks so watch it soon! Now on to our next exciting workshop:
Tomorrow at 8 ET/ 5 PT I’ll be hosting Peter Kispert, author of the story collection I Know You Know Who I Am and editor for both HarperCollins and American Short Fiction. He’ll be giving us some of his key pieces of advice on writing fiction, whether you’re just starting out or have been at it for a while, and also his major insights into literary journal submissions and assembling a collection.
On a personal note, this workshop couldn’t come at a better time for me because I’m newly-obsessed with short stories, after feeling lukewarm about them when I was in grad school. I’m currently using them to figure out the range of voices I can embody in fiction, since unlike a novel, it’s possible to get one to a presentable state in months rather than years. If you find yourself in the same boat, I highly recommend this workshop and hope to see you there!
Yours,
Meredith
P.S. Folks have been asking if we’re aware that Substack is problematic and yes, we are, and are planning to migrate to a different platform soon, though it will take some coordination and time so please bear with us while we figure things out. Thanks!
